Thank you to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) for supporting a three year, $3.6 million contract to the Seattle-King County Public Health Department in Seattle, Washington recently awarded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The grant award was one of ten grants approved by PCORI to distribute $23.2 million in funding for research to reduce disparities in asthma burden and outcomes.

PCORI aims to compare interventions to address uncontrolled asthma in African-Americans and Latinos.  The Seattle-King County project will examine the effectiveness of interventions among 380 patients enrolled at 6 community health centers in Seattle.

Jacqui Vok, AAFA’s Director of Programs and Services, will serve on the panel of national asthma education experts advising the project.  She recently completed developing AAFA’s Wee Breathersβ„’ asthma education program and serves as a member of the National Advisory Board for the Food Allergy Management Education (FAME) program for the St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

We are confident that this research will inform asthma educators further about which approach best meets the needs of people with asthma.

Kids With Food Allergies is a division of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and proudly supports AAFA's efforts to reduce disparities in vulnerable populations for asthma as well as other allergic diseases.
