What happens when children with food allergies grow up and enter the work force?  About 1 percent of adults have peanut allergy and the numbers are growing.

 

In 2008, the Americans With  Disabilities Act expanded to include food allergy as a recognized disability.  This means that "employers have an obligation to accommodate employees who suffer from food allergies, but within reason.  For example, it is much easier to protect someone from a peanut allergy who works in an office versus someone who works in food service."
