Kids With Food Allergies Foundation Privacy Policy

Kids With Food Allergies Foundation takes the privacy of our members very seriously. This policy will define what information we collect, how it is used, and how we protect it. If you have any questions regarding our privacy policy, you may email us.

1. Personal information we collect online

We collect personally-identifiable information you voluntarily provide us through the registration process, by filling out a form, or by email contact with us.

We require users who want to participate in our online community to register. As part of the registration process, you will be required to provide us with a username (which does not have to be your real name), password, a valid e-mail address, zip code and answers to other questions.

As a registered member, you have the option of providing some additional information such as your children's ages and allergies. This optional information is made available to our members to foster a sense of community. If you do not wish to provide this optional information, you may leave the optional fields blank and your registration will still be processed.

For further information about our collection and storage of personally-identifiable information, please email us.

2. Financial information we collect online

If you choose to make an online donation, become a family member or make a purchase using our website, you will have to provide your credit card billing information. We use encryption and technology safeguards to collect, process, and transmit your information online. The credit card information that you provide at the time of donation is used only to process your donation, membership or purchase, and will not be used by us for any other purpose.

3. How we use your personal information

  • To improve our website and member services
  • To facilitate your use of our online community features and searchable databases
  • To send you newsletters or other announcements, such as our fundraising efforts or membership renewal reminders, by email or postal mail

4. Personal information we share and with whom we share it

Any personal information we collect we will consider to be confidential. We will not use or disclose your personal information to any third party without your consent unless compelled to do so by law or when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our website.

We may, however, allow access to our databases by third parties who provide us services to improve or maintain the website, databases and online community. These third parties only have access to the extent necessary to perform those services.

5. How we protect your personal information

We require our volunteers and any staff or persons with whom we may contract to sign an agreement that confirms their commitment to maintain the confidentiality of any personal information to which they have access, and limits their access to and use of any personal information in our possession to that which they need to use in the course of their work for us.

The security of your personal information is important to us. When you enter sensitive information (such as credit card number) on our donation, registration or order forms, we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL).

We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

If you have any questions about security on our Web site, you can email us.

6. Our use of cookies

We use small text files called cookies to remember your username and email address so you can access members-only sections of the website. These cookies collect some non-personal information such as your type of browser, but do not collect, store or maintain any other private personally identifiable information. The only information we match with your email address from a cookie is your Internet service provider (IP) address and the date when you've last visited our online community. When you are visiting our community, it is possible for community administrators to determine which users are currently online and which forum each user is currently visiting; otherwise, we will not have any knowledge of what particular pages you have chosen to visit. We may use this information for management purposes, such as to identify duplicate registrations or to deal with registrants who abuse their privileges in using the message boards or chat rooms.

We use aggregate, non-personally-identifiable data derived from cookies to compile statistics such as the number of visitors to our site, the type of browser and operating systems visitors use, what countries visitors are coming from, and what pages and files users visit. We may use this type of information for management and administrative purposes, such as for planning service improvements. This type of report will not contain any personal information and will not identify any users of our website or online community.

When you register on our site, you may choose to refuse our cookie, or you may delete or turn off our cookie from your hard drive at any time although this will create problems for your use of certain parts of our website.

7. How you can control the use of your personal information

We give you choices and control of what information you provide to us. You can update your personal profile by logging into our online community, choosing “manage”, then select the settings or profile item you wish to update.

We want to caution you as a website visitor, that any information you disclose in the public areas of these services (online community forums, including, blogs, videos or photo sharing, chat rooms) and other publicly viewed content in which you voluntarily participate can be viewed by anyone who accesses those areas and is not considered to be confidential or privileged. You should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit in the public areas can be read, collected, or used by other users of our website and could be used to send you unsolicited messages. We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to disclose publicly.

If you would like to opt out of receiving any communications from Kids With Food Allergies Foundation, you may have your membership data deleted by email us.
