On July 25, 2019, Kenny Mendez, President and CEO of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), co-hosted a Facebook Live session with pediatrician and blogger, Dr. Katie Freidman of Forever Freckled. If you didn’t have a chance to tune in live, you can still watch the session. (Kids With Food Allergies is a division of AAFA.)

The Facebook Live session focused on new treatments for kids with peanut allergies and the power of the parent voice in telling decision makers in Washington about the value of new therapies.

Dr. Katie and Kenny discussed:

  • Two new immunotherapy treatments for kids ages 2-17 years old, including details on how these new treatments work – one is oral immunotherapy, and the other is a skin patch to give peanut proteins through the skin
  • The timing of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) decision on approval of these new therapies
  • How the Kids With Food Allergies community amplified the parent voice through new research to convey the patient perspective about new peanut allergy treatments
  • The caregiver burden, including the emotional and financial burden, facing caregivers who have children with food allergies
  • Why joining the Kids With Food Allergies community matters
