If you live in New Jersey, take action now by urging your local representative in the New Jersey state legislature to move a bill through the legislative process that covers the cost of special formula for eosinophilic disorders regardless of delivery method.

The bill, S2649, gives health insurance coverage for amino acid-based elemental formulas (like Neocate® or EleCare®) for eosinophilic disorders. The bill provides coverage for elemental formula no matter how it is delivered. An infant or child does not need to be on a feeding tube in order to be eligible.

The bill passed unanimously in the NJ Assembly. The bill needs a hearing in the NJ Senate Commerce Committee in order to move forward.

Eosinophilic (ee-uh-sin-uh-fil-ik) esophagitis (EoE) is an allergic swallowing disorder. EoE affects the esophagus, the part of the gastrointestinal tract (gut) that connects the back of the throat to the stomach.

EoE occurs when a type of white blood cell, called eosinophil, collects in the esophagus. It is often triggered by food. Elemental formulas offer complete nutrition for infants. These formulas are for infants who are unable to tolerate extensively-hydrolyzed formulas.

Support S2649 - visit the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America's Action Network to contact your local representative. Ask that the bill get posted for a hearing in the Senate Commerce Committee as soon as possible.
