A bill in the Pennsylvania Senate (SB 898) would amend the Public School Code of 1949 to require schools in the state to stock epinephrine auto-injectors for use in the event of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). Approximately 20-25% of epinephrine injections in schools involve children whose allergy was unknown at the time of the reaction. If schools have access to epinephrine auto-injectors and staff trained to administer the medication, children will not die at school when a snack lands in the wrong hands.
