Any food can be an allergen. The most common food allergies are milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish, and crustacean shellfish. The FDA only requires these major eight allergens to be labeled by common name on food ingredient labels if a product contains them. Advisory warnings such as "May contain" are not required and are not regulated. Learn more about reading food labels and how to avoid allergens.
