He has a friend who has given up his outdoor recess to stay in with him due to his pollen allergies. He also has peanut, tree nut and other food allergies. It doesn't stop him from enjoying life.
Hugs on not having that buddy these days, but I'm glad to hear that the school has worked with you on his accommodations. It sounds like they really care. I know many of our parents would love to hear more details of how you developed such a great working relationship with your school ... so when you get a chance, how about starting a new topic on our forum for parents of school-age kids, tweens and teens?
Unfortunately, his lunch period is the last one. Typically, he could stay in the lunchroom and play card games, with toys or hand held video games. He can still do those but he needs to sit in a chair in a hallway near the front office because the lunch staff leaves for the day. He was allowed to bring a buddy at first but not anymore. They need the additional chairs to accommodate other students for various reasons. On days that he is the only student, he chats with the greeter that sits in the same area. The school has been awesome. The nurse is great! Some of the teachers overdo it when it comes to keeping him safe. He sits at the regular lunch table. I have no complaints about the school accommodating him.
