My 4 yr old son had this happen about a month ago. He would get huge patches of hives all over. They would appear then disappear and then reappear in new places all day and night long. He has a severe tree nut allergy. He had no known exposure to tree nuts when this started to happen and occurred for 72 hrs. His allergist and Pediatrican call it idiopathic hives. They had us give him liquid zrytec in the morning and then benadryl at night. Once they stopped occuring they had us continue with the zrytec in the mornings for 2 additional weeks. So far it hasn't happened again. They told me sometimes hives occur for no reason. Not sure this helps but I know how scary and frustrating it can be when this happens.
