Re: Food Allergy Test: What Does It Mean?

Maggie K ·
I had my son tested IgE with an allergist because of his eczema condition. We knew his allergy to milk at age of one, hives right after 1 oz of whole milk. He was bs mostly the first 6 months, then alimentum after. He had regular Similic couple times before 6 months but no reactions. His IgE for milk is 6.29, so I think it confirmed his milk allergy. He is still on alimentum and he is 16 1/2 months. His IgE for egg white is above 50, I had not introduced egg to him yet, but with the MMR (had...

Re: How to Make Allergy-Friendly Vanilla Silk Frosting

shiloq89 ·
Thankyou for the recipe. My son's 5th birthday is tomorrow. I'm making an allergy free cake and needed the frosting to go with it. Yummy. I tried it and it's delicious. I added in total about a quarter cup of water when made with the cisco which made the frosting much smoother more like the stuff he's used to from a can.. we're celebrating at his school tomorrow, which is of course nut free, he and 1 other child are dairy free (well dairy light) and another is gluten free. Oi. Kids. Gotta...

Re: Six-Year-Old's Heart Stops After Eating Macadamia Nut Cookie, Life Saved by First Responders

Kids With Food Allergies ·
KFA ADMIN: There is one statement in the article that is incorrect that we would like to clarify. In the U.S., food manufacturers are not required to state if food was processed in the same facility as peanuts (or any other major food allergen). FDA regulated foods are required to list top 8 allergens in the ingredients list if the food contains one of those allergens (peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish).

Re: Super Bowls of Fruit Dip (Dairy-Free, Soy-Free, Egg-Free)

Kids With Food Allergies ·
Take note: Although coconut is considered a "tree nut" by the Food and Drug Administration, studies have shown that coconut is not related to "tree nut allergy". Although it is possible to be allergic to coconut, most patients with tree nut allergy will not need to avoid coconut. Please consult with your allergist for recommendations based on your needs.

Re: Super Sun-Dried Tomatoes! 3 Allergy-Friendly Recipes

Monster Mom ·
I have ones that are just dried tomatoes "Bella Sun Luc"i- Nut free sun dried tomatoes were really hard to find, no matter the form. I found that one brand, but never called to confirm if they are around nuts. there are no warnings on the package, and as it turns out, my child ended up being allergic to the tomatoes. I assume the dried one not in oil may need some oil added in to compensate, or be heated with water, I can't remember if the dried ones are dehydrated or slightly plump. HTH

Re: New Food Find: Allergy-Friendly Cookies Made in a Dedicated Allergy-Free Facility

MAM-mom ·
Hi Sahba! Welcome to KFA!! The one that comes to my mind is the bars from Enjoy Life Foods . Click on the flavors to see the ingredients lists and decide if you think they are okay in terms of refined sugar (evaporated cane sugar) and ingredients you can't pronounce. I sort of know what you mean but my tolerance is probably different from yours. I know that a lot of granola bars and fruit bars are indeed a risk for people with tree nut and peanut allergies. If the Enjoy Life ones don't work...

Do the Food Allergen Labeling Laws Apply to Cosmetics?

Kids With Food Allergies ·
From lip balm and shampoo to moisturizers and eye shadow, cosmetics are overseen by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Even though these products go on our lips and skin, the FDA provides a lot less oversight than you might expect. In fact, most of the time the government does not get involved until there is a problem. Here’s what you need to know. What are “cosmetics”? The government defines “cosmetics” based on how the product is meant to be used. Cosmetics are meant to be rubbed,...
