    What advice to you give to parents of children with eczema/asthma who may have false positives from IgE testing? My daughter's IgE numbers are off the charts, and we've been avoiding likely allergens.     Hi MulanMommy - It's incredible what food can do to the body - good or bad. In our son's case, he now has severe reactions, borderline anaphylaxis, with dairy, soy, gluten, corn, and tree nuts. He can not even have one bite - or a trace. Still also triggers eczema.     My daughter actually tested negative several times to some things as a baby despite reacting to them and then went on to test positive with low numbers. With egg for example her IgE was about 1.2, but she failed the in office food challenge with the initial dose of egg powder before the real food.     Thanks so much for all the great ideas and information! We give out non-food treats - things like glow sticks, glow necklaces, temporary tattoos, stickers, and small toys. The kids who come to our house AND their parents really seem to like these "treats".

    As a mom of a food-allergic kid, Halloween is very difficult for us. Especially now, as she's getting older and in school with other kids that like and enjoy the candy aspect of Halloween. On Halloween night, we choose to hand out food-related treats. This year, we're handing out glow-in-the-dark Halloween tattoos.     Product Review: We tried the Aged White Cheddar Puffs and really liked them. They are mild in flavor and not salty. I was worried that the puffs would have the texture of Styrofoam, but they didn't. They melt in your mouth. The entire bag was gone within minutes.     I really wish that schools would do away with food related parties. I am not a FA parent but I do not want my child eating most of the prepared allergy friendly food because they mostly contain food coloring, additives, preservatives and GMOs that are poisonous to all kids and that are not a part of my family's diet. As for Chipotle, I know they are rolling out the change over. Our local restaurants have signs up about the rice oil change. I'm not sure the start of their printed material.     Although I feel Chipotle does make an honest effort by attempting to use allergy-friendly products, the risk of cross-contamination can be quite real if you/your child has an allergy to Milk (or, any of the other products they serve).     Hi kally, My son has a very severe milk allergy and we eat at Chipotle 1-2 times per week. I can totally understand your apprehension. Here are some tips: One person handles your food. They will change their gloves first - sometimes you have to remind them but it's coorporate policy AFAIK. I always ask them to hold my son's tray - do not slide it on the counter. We only get rice, beans, and meat from the bar. Any salsa, lettuce or guac comes from the fridge under the bar or the back.

    Mexican and Italian restaurants skeeved me out too, until we discovered that one of our local Italian restaurants had safe bread for DS (flour, yeast, olive oil, sugar, and water). It was the first restaurant that puts bread on the table that was safe for him. He's also very happy with a plate of pasta with olive oil and herbs, and he has been spoiled rotten there. Mexican restaurants where I live often have language barrier issues, so I never trusted them with FA, though I enjoyed the food...

    I was very skeptical of Mexican and Italian restaurants in the beginning. The idea that there was so much cheese in the kitchen made me very nervous. However, I was surprised to learn that many Mexican restaurants don't use much in the way of milk or butter... just lots of cheese. For DS we are almost always able to get him white rice and beans (black or refried - hold the cheese). Occasionally we get him meat, too, but honestly he loves rice and beans so much he prefers them over the meat.

    Hi sumo60 - frequency of testing is something that is very individualized. I will say that a lot docs used to test fairly regularly - like at the annual check up appointment. However, studies have shown that testing along is not enough to diagnose an allergy. It's just 1 part of the equation. Also, a good portion of eczema is not caused by foods.     KFA ADMIN: There is one statement in the article that is incorrect that we would like to clarify. In the U.S., food manufacturers are not required to state if food was processed in the same facility as peanuts (or any other major food allergen). FDA regulated foods are required to list top 8 allergens in the ingredients list if the food contains one of those allergens (peanut, tree nut, milk, egg, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish).

    I did finally make this! But I only made the cauliflower risotto part as a side dish with grilled sausage. Bc I didn't want to drag out my food processor, I used the large side of a box grater to grate down the cauliflower. Easy peasy! Has he been tested periodically to see if the numbers are decreasing? Has he eaten anything with milk recently and still showing reactions?

    Thanks. I myself only have eczema, haven't tested myself for food or environmental yet. But my son is the one who suffers. He has eczema, and a severe allergy to peanuts/ tree nuts, and high allergy to wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, corn, pinto beans, tomatoes, potatoes...and a picky eater on top of all that. And highly allergic to cat/dog dander and dust mites. Very hard to find stuff he can eat, or will eat. Hoping to find some support here. ☺

    As the mother of a son with an anaphylactic alergy to corn I can't stress the importance of carrying the epipen at all times even when food intake is not planned.
