    Shopping today & noticed 2 new flavors of Qrunch burgers: - sweet curry with lentils - green chile with pinto beans From what I can tell on the Qrunch facebook page, these look like they were released on April 15, 2013.

    The price of these are expensive compared to other pastas, but since they have so much more protein and fiber, maybe it would be a good idea to mix these with your current gluten-free pasta to boost the nutrition of your meal. (If you can't afford to use these solely.)

    I can't really speak for the author, but I've used those ingredients in my cooking as well, so I can speak to why I personally used them. With having to eliminate dairy from DS's diet we found that we needed to find alternative sources of protein and calcium. Adding brown rice protein powder and calcium powder to baked goods was one additional way we could help meet those nutritional needs.

    Hi Christie, I didn't create the original recipe, but I can share my thoughts on using those ingredients in baking since I have used them as well. The brown rice powder helps increase the protein content of the dough. Many gluten-free flour blends do not have much protein and without protein, there isn't much "structure".     I've used calcium powder in baked goods too.....I use it in the form of calcium ascorbate. I've used it as a calcium supplement plus an acidifier for the recipe.Often I put a tsp or so into a muffin recipe to get more calcium in my family. None of us drink milk or an alternative regularly, so I know it's something missing in our diets.     If you are corn-free then you should NOT eat xanthan Gum. Out of all the patients I know with reactions or allergies to corn they all react to xanthan. A better choice for the corn-allergy population is guar gum. Also, for the very sensitive all of the ingredients needed to have been sourced carefully to avoid corn cross contamination during harvest and processing.     Thanks for sharing that. I've found it to be very individualized on corn issue. Neither of my kids ever had issues w/ xanthan. It's important to know how to I know sometimes xanthan cause issues not related to corn for people. Not all xanthan is cultured on corn. I know Bob's Red Mill brand is on wheat. Some have issues w/ guar gum as well since it's a legume and can cause GI issues in some.

    There are definitely different sensitivity levels to corn products. I know we cannot use Bob's of any type because when we contacted them they even said there is a risk of cross contamination to corn because of their procedures. Guar gum definitely is an issue for some with legume but isnt derived from corn. There does seem to be a part of the population that both reacts to wheat and corn, but I know on the various corn allergy support groups it is strong recommended to avoid all xanthan gum...

    Hi Tiffani - it's hard to find gluten-free products without xanthan gum. There tends to be a lot of controversy over the gums added to gluten-free foods. Xanthan gum is not technically derived from corn. It's extracted from a microbe that can be grown on a refined corn sugar as a substrate. The end product is highly refined and "shouldn't" have any intact corn proteins remaining. Everyone is different and there are some people who do react to xanthan gum. That actually makes me feel better about trying some products with xantham gum. I am looking for a box cake mix for my son’s first birthday and having the hardest time.     To be honest, I'm not sure yet. Still kind of processing the info. It sounds good, but the knowledge that the allergens were there and could slip through is a concern. On the other hand, their QC seems top notch.
