Re: How to Make Your Own Allergy-Friendly Seed Butter to Replace Peanut Butter

Former Member ·
I have tried to make my own sunflower seed butter in my food processor, but even after a looong time in the processor and a fair amount of canola, I still get a "paste" so thick you can slice it! What am I doing wrong? Do I just need a better processor? We haven't retried pumpkin seeds yet - she got hives from it about a year ago when we first tried it. I'll probably wait until pumpkins start showing up in stores so I can get truly uncontaminated seeds. Thanks!

Re: Check Ingredient Statements on Halloween Candy

Kids With Food Allergies ·
Hi Colleen, I believe we are talking about the same issue. We are aware of the re-bagging issue--we included it under the Dum Dums/Spangler photo (second to last photo) and highlighted it as #3 at the top of the blog post: Quote: Quote: How parents choose to deal with this issue may vary. In our Halloween tips in other articles, we've shared ideas such as trading your child's bag of trick-or-treating candy for all safe candy, or for toys, etc. The tradition is sometimes called the Switch...

The animals are all made from the home made fondant. I didn't think I will get so absorbed with the project! it took me 10 hrs but I had a lot of fun. I think my friend kept the animals frozen in her freezer ever since the party :-)

The teacher organized this project. She has a son with a peanut allergy as well as my son who is in her class. So she taught the kids the importance of food allergy awareness. The kids loved it as you can see in this picture.

What are some other ways people deal with Halloween? I don't think this teal thing should stop by any means, but I am having a hard time seeing it as a widely accepted solution. I have a peanut/treenut allergic kid and I have very mixed emotions... On the one hand, I like the added awareness, but on the other hand... I think this might be expecting too much . In our town, some neighborhoods get hundreds of kids and per item non-food stuff can get expensive. Plus, I really don't want my...

Hi RW! Some people keep the cost down by ordering bulk non-food treats online, or by giving kids a choice and asking, especially if the parents are nearby. Have you also seen this year's post on craft ideas ... You could also bake a fun safe-for-you cake . My preteen just likes being with his friends, for the most part. I like the idea of donating extra candy to volunteers in your town. Some dentists have always collected it in exchange for something...

Oops, sorry about that--I didn't notice the Tootsie Rolls. I had changed the title of this clip based on the cake recipe, the marshmallow fondant, and that you can also make RKT without milk (using milk-free margarine, etc.) There is a way to make modeling chocolate as a substitute for Tootsie Rolls so that this cake can be made truly milk-free. There are several topic posts on our Food & Cooking or Celebrations forums regarding how to make modeling chocolate (using safe chocolate chips...
