Re: Dustless Chalk May Cause Health Woes in Milk-Allergic Kids

josephine ·
This is so true. When Christian was a few years old he went into an attack at the doctor's office. Yep, I said the doctor's office. She had a chalk and board that the kids could use while waiting for her in the room. I was so relieved when he went to school that they now use the dry erase boards and smart boards. I use to go crazy with my milk allergies when I went to school. No one ever linked the chalk to milk allergies. We have come a long way. Oh, by the way, our doctor no longer has the...

Dr. Stukus - Thank you for sharing this information. I agree with much of what you had to say and wanted to know if you would ever recommend the "Gold Standard" for accommodations in school? I have two children with close to 40 ER visits between them for allergic reactions. One has had RAST scores over 100 to Peanuts since infancy - he is 12. The other has RAST over 100 to Dairy and Eggs since infancy - she is 8. They both had systemic reactions to skin testing done last summer. They were...

Re: 3 Tricks to Managing Food Allergies at Halloween

nyc4me03 ·
As a mom of a food-allergic kid, Halloween is very difficult for us. Especially now, as she's getting older and in school with other kids that like and enjoy the candy aspect of Halloween. On Halloween night, we choose to hand out food-related treats. This year, we're handing out glow-in-the-dark Halloween tattoos. This way, we show our daughter that it's okay and perfectly acceptable to get something other than candy during trick-or-treating. Also, we have our daughter help us hand out...

Re: How to Make Allergy-Friendly Vanilla Silk Frosting

shiloq89 ·
Thankyou for the recipe. My son's 5th birthday is tomorrow. I'm making an allergy free cake and needed the frosting to go with it. Yummy. I tried it and it's delicious. I added in total about a quarter cup of water when made with the cisco which made the frosting much smoother more like the stuff he's used to from a can.. we're celebrating at his school tomorrow, which is of course nut free, he and 1 other child are dairy free (well dairy light) and another is gluten free. Oi. Kids. Gotta...

Re: New Epinephrine Study Shows Alarming Results

Kathy P ·
Wow Rose, thanks for sharing your story. My kids were both highly sensitive to corn and derivatives when they were little. Both outgrew it by middle school, but it was a real challenge to avoid and many just wouldn't believe where corn hid and that the highly processed stuff could possibly be an issue. Thankfully mine were not anaphylactic.

Re: New Epinephrine Study Shows Alarming Results

I was complacent. My 14 year old daughter was complacent. Eye-rolls and annoyed posture every time I asked if she had her epi-pen. She doesn't remember her reaction when she was 2.75 years old and there have been many, many expired epi-pens since. I used to say it was the best money I ever threw away. Until this year, I got annoyed. I was certain I had sent in an epi-pen in the fall for school. The nurse sent an email to all delinquent parents of food allergic kids. "Your child's epi-pen is...
