Congrats to this Red Sox player, whose mom had this to say about him: "My little Red Sox Player! He faces allergies with bravery and determination. Michael would rather miss out on something than cause anyone around him to have to avoid a food they love. He's selfless and caring and our Super allergy Super Star! " Michael is the winner of a prize package from Go Veggie and a KFA t-shirt! Congrats, Michael!

I have tried to make my own sunflower seed butter in my food processor, but even after a looong time in the processor and a fair amount of canola, I still get a "paste" so thick you can slice it! What am I doing wrong? Do I just need a better processor? We haven't retried pumpkin seeds yet - she got hives from it about a year ago when we first tried it. I'll probably wait until pumpkins start showing up in stores so I can get truly uncontaminated seeds. Thanks!

Unfortunately, our insurance won't cover auvi-Q. It is interesting, however, since we pay 90% of our prescriptions. I did find out through an Auvi-Q rep that pharmacies set their own price. I had the pharmacist check on the pricing since we pay most of the price anyway, but it was about $39 more. It is sold to the pharmacies as the same price as the Epi-pens. My husband is self imployed - thus the expensive insurance.

Welcome Esther!! Sorry to hear that you are dealing with food allergies, but we are glad that you found us! You've come to the right place for support. The majority of insurances do cover epinephrine auto-injectors, but it really depends on your insurance policy as to which ones they will cover and how much they will cover. Has your doctor called in a prescription to your pharmacy already? Once your pharmacy has a prescription on file they should be able to submit a claim and tell you what...

I put my comment because of post's title: «The Perfect Allergy-Friendly Cake and Raspberry Compote Recipe» The word «perfect» is the problem. You surely know that anyone reading that it will assume there's nothing wrong with it, hence it's «healthy». Which is not! The reply confirmed it! «No one said GF is healthy.» Shouldn't be? Shouldn't we promote GF healthy eating?! «Everything is in moderation.» Unhealthy in moderation? I do find the above arguments curious...

I tried this bread and my family loved it. My older son who doesn't have any food allergies ate 2 slices with butter and wanted more. My husband didn't think it tasted like gluten free bread at all! Thanks for this recipe. I was using egg replacer before and it didn't have much flavor. I like the extra vitamins that we are getting by using sweet potato too.

Does "smaller" refer to height, weight, or both? I'm wondering how much of the size difference has to do with nutritional deficiencies vs. an overall awareness of our diets. Because we read every label, every time, we notice not only allergen-containing foods, but also artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners. Our kids eat a lot less junk food than average American kids, and we eat out a lot less too (restaurant food tends to be higher in fat and sodium than home-cooked food). That...

Thank you for this article! I've always suspected that my 8 year old son's food allergy to dairy, eggs and nuts had something to do with his small size and this article helped affirm my suspicions. I've often been told by family that I'm a "helicopter mom" when it comes to making sure he eats and eats good. I do it because I know he has to make up with foods that will give him the equivalent or if not similar nutrients from foods he's allergic to. And with his high metabolism, it doesn't...

Thanks for providing this information. By the way, the link you've shared appears to be incorrect. I found the guideline listed above in: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Food Allergy in the United States: Summary of the NIAID-sponsored Expert Panel Report (p. 9, 3.7).

Hi Heddi, thanks for posting the link to the expert panel report. That is the report published in the clinical literature ( Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology ), which is the primary resource on this topic written for the clinician. Both are accurate references for the NIH Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Food ...

This is very interesting. Do you know if the generic for Adrenaclick will "overwrite" the brand one? We cannot seem to find its availability at least in FL.
  • Blog Post Comment
Hello Francesca, By overwrite, do you mean will brand Adrenaclick production be halted or are you wondering about generic substitution requirements between the two? As far as availability, many pharmacies won't order in a product or keep a product in stock unless they see a need for it (ie: until they have consistent requests for it). If you would like a specific item, most pharmacies are happy to order it in for you, and often they can have it in stock within a day or two of your request.

Good Morning! I'm a Mom of 2, ages 3.5 and 18 months. In our household we have an anaphylactic dairy allergy and a corn allergy. I am the one with the anaphylaxis and I've lived WELL with this allergy all my life. I'd just like to say that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and if there is extended family and friends who will cooperate with your food allergies, you can have a safe and delicious Thanksgiving. It's about trust... and about education... and possibly about providing recipes and...

I had an anaphalactic reaction after eating one of these bars for breakfast last year. I lost consciousness while on the phone to my mother and was taken to the ER via ambulance after she called a neighbor. I assumed it was something else I must have come into contact with (although it was the only thing I had eaten that morning). I stupidly continued to eat the bars, getting sick every time (although not as bad). I thought it must have been one of the other ingredients, since it was milk...

As a mom of a food-allergic kid, Halloween is very difficult for us. Especially now, as she's getting older and in school with other kids that like and enjoy the candy aspect of Halloween. Product Review: We tried the Aged White Cheddar Puffs and really liked them. They are mild in flavor and not salty. I was worried that the puffs would have the texture of Styrofoam, but they didn't. They melt in your mouth. The entire bag was gone within minutes. If you like nutritional yeast, you'll like these Puffs.
