The Jefferson Street Bakery Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Milk in "Amana Dinner Rolls"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — February 3, 2015 — The Jefferson Street Bakery of Burlington, IA, is recalling all “Amana Dinner Rolls” produced with lot number “834J364” because they may contain undeclared milk. People who have allergies to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled products were distributed to retail stores in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
Bulk product is received in a cardboard case containing 10 individual units and is marked with lot number “834J364” on the case label. Individual units are packaged in 1 LB. 2 OZ. (510g) bread bags marked with lot number “834J364” on the bread clip.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered by quality control personnel at the Jefferson Street Bakery that the milk containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk by its common name.
This was due to a breakdown of labeling controls during a packaging redesign. Information gathered during our recall investigation shows that all of the product has been accounted for and disposed of, but due to the serious nature of this problem we have decided to issue this public notice for any consumers that could have potentially purchased this product.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers and consumers. The Jefferson Street Bakery takes great pride in producing safe, quality bread products and will make all necessary corrective actions to ensure this problem does not re-occur in the future.
Consumers that may have purchased “Amana Dinner Rolls” marked with lot number “834J364” are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company 8 am to 4:30 pm CST Monday through Friday at 1-319-752-6315.
