Tropical Nut and Fruit Co. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts in “Chia Recharged Stix Mix” 5 Ounce Pouches

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - January 28, 2013 - Tropical Nut and Fruit Co, Orlando Florida is voluntarily recalling five lots of snack mix "Chia ReCharged Stix Mix” 5 ounce pouches because they may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The recalled "Chia ReCharged Stix Mix” 5 ounce pouches were distributed between June 6 th, 2012 to October 23 rd, 2012 to wholesalers and in retail stores nationwide.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

Affected lot numbers are stamped on master case. 12 pouches make up a case and the lot numbers are as follows:

Affected packages can be identified by the best before date stamped on the back of the pouches above the bar code. These best before date are from 01/20/13 to 04/17/13.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the peanut-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary break down in the company's production and packaging processes.
