WASHINGTON, April 11, 2015 – Corn Maiden Foods, Inc., a Harbor City, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 15,600 pounds of pork tamales, pork Yucatan, and beef brisket taquitos products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The products contain hydrolyzed soy protein, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

The pork tamales, pork Yucatan, and beef brisket taquitos items were produced on various dates between April 9, 2014 and April 8, 2015.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • 20.625 lb. cases containing 60 5.5 oz. pieces of “Tamales with Pork Sante Fe Green Chile Wrapped in Corn Husks.”
  • 9.375 lb. cases containing 60 2.5 oz. pieces of “Tamales with Pork Sante Fe Green Chile Wrapped in Corn Husks.”
  • 24 lb. cases containing 3 8lb. vacuum sealed packages of “Border Grill Pork Yucatan.”
  • 15 lb. cases containing 100 2.7 oz. pieces of “Border Grill [Beef] Brisket Taquitos.”

The products subject to recall bear the establishment number “EST. 20949” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

These items produced were shipped to hotels, restaurants and institutional locations in California.
The problem was discovered by FSIS in-plant personnel during routine verification activities.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.

Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Consumers and media with questions about the recall can contact Pascal Dropsy, President of Corn Maiden Foods, Inc, at (310) 784-0400 ext. 221.
