Stefano Foods Inc. recalls Quesadilla Chick Ins due to undeclared soy.
WASHINGTON, October 5, 2012 - Stefano Foods, Inc., a Charlotte, N.C. establishment, is recalling approximately 3,744 pounds of a chicken quesadilla product because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The product contains isolated soy protein, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label.
The following product is subject to recall:
- 18-lb. cases, each containing 12, "QUESADILLA CHICK INS 12/24OZ," with an identifying case code of "F2829" and use by date of "03/31/2013."
The product subject to recall bears the establishment number "EST. P-19140" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The product was produced on Aug. 3, 2012, and shipped to a distributor in Georgia for further sale at retail locations.
The problem was discovered by the company during a routine internal audit and may have occurred as a result of a change in the chicken and spice mix used in the product. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
