Announcement
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball today alerted consumers that the “Lily Bulb” product (photo attached) distributed by Allied Imports Inc. of 267 52nd Street, Brooklyn, NY 11220 was found to contain sulfites, which are not declared on the product label. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with this product.
The “Lily Bulb” is packaged in a 10 oz. (283 g) plastic bag with a clear window. The product does not have a use by code but it is labeled as a product of China and has a UPC code of 6-43719-11002-0.
Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by staff at the New York State Food Laboratory revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites, which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could also occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.
Consumers who are sensitive to sulfites and have purchased “Lily Bulb” should discard the product. Questions may be directed to Mr. Trung S. Tran at (718) 417-9281.
