FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - May 8, 2014 - Surma Distributors LLC., located at 1075 Flushing Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11237, is recalling HAQUE brand Golden Raisins because the product contains undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product.
HAQUE brand Golden Raisins is sold in a 7 ounce, un-coded, clear plastic package and was distributed in the New York City area. It is a product of USA.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in HAQUE brand Golden Raisins which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
