Dairy, Egg, Soy Protein, Peanut, Tree Nut, and Coconut-Free. Chocolate Cake, with buttercream icing. Nemo and Dory are plastic toppers, but all other decorations are made from homemade fondant and homemade modeling chocolate.
Thanks for the kind comments everyone! People have asked about the recipe. The book cake pan requires more than one recipe. So I made a marble cake, mixing one batch of the Crazy Cake recipe, and a second batch of the white cake recipe that was also highlighted on this site (it was the base of a Rainbow Cake). The decorations are made from either homemade fondant (just marshmallows, powdered sugar and a little water), or homemade modeling chocolate (using dairy, egg, and nut-free chips from Chocolate Emporium, corn syrup, and water). The buttercream icing is simply Wilton's Buttercream Icing, but I substitute Fleschman's Unsalted Margarine (dairy-free) for the butter and use water or rice milk as the liquid. People have posted concerns about the food dyes used to color the frosting and figures - I used Ameri-Color, but I understand that there are all-natural food coloring dyes available online for those of you who are interested.
If you can use soy, you can replace one egg with 1/4 cup of soy milk and one tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice. Lemon juice is nicer than vinegar because it adds some flavour.
Oh no, it just took a LONG time with many flops to finally find the recipe using vinegar (and baking soda too!) for a cake that held together. We use it all the time now! Thanks so much!!
Hi crowsnest! I'm not sure which recipe this member used, but we you can check out the Safe Eats Recipe Database. You can search for "Free of" recipes and select which allergen/s you avoid - Egg Free Cakes. My favorite is Wacky Cake which does use baking soda and vinegar. Is there a particular cake you're trying to recreate?
