UPDATE 8/5: The FDA announced today that 37,500 cans of Nestlé SMA Nutrition Althéra, a hypoallergenic formula for food allergies, will be available this month. This formula is an extensively hydrolyzed protein formula. It may be a substitute for Alimentum/Nutramigen for children with a cow’s milk allergy. It is not a substitute for Neocate or EleCare, or for other allergies or conditions like EoE. Check for suitable substitutions to discuss with your doctor. ...
UPDATE 07/15 : The Patient Advocate Foundation has launched an Emergency Assistance Fund to provide direct financial support to families impacted by amino acid-based formula shortages. The fund is available to families who meet the eligibility criteria (verified by a healthcare professional), regardless of their income. UPDATE 6/27 : Some recalled formula was sold in error from Shoppers Drug Mart Some Abbott powdered infant formula in Canada was recalled on 02/27/2022 due to contamination. Some of these products were still sold online in error from Shoppers Drug Mart. Check to see if you have recalled products in your home. Any recalled product should be thrown out or returned to the location it was purchased. Dr. Butto shares some tips to dealing with the infant formula shortage.
