Hello @Steve1976 and welcome to the community! I'm sorry your family is affected by this product change. KFA did reach out to McDonald's for more information on behalf of our community. McDonald's didn't clarify when distribution began or when all locations would have the new buns. Should any further updates become available we will share them here. Was your son having any reactions to the burgers/buns?
@Moe M. He hasn't had a burger there in quite a few months. He gets into phases of what he enjoys eating. He now eats nothing but Chicken Nuggets from there of which he has no reaction too. But in the event he decides he wants a burger, it would be good to know if and when this change has taken place.
@Steve1976 There are pea ingredients in the chicken nugget products as well. If he's tolerating those with no reactions, it may be worth bringing up with your doctor if you haven't already.
Does anyone know when this change took affect? Meaning what date the the distribution of the new buns occur? My son has allergies to pea protein and potatoes along with Peanuts/Tree Nuts/Eggs. He recently stopped eating burgers on his own fruition, but we are not sure if its because of the ingredient change as we do not know when this change took affect.
I find the other comments interesting as my son also has allergies to peas, potatoes and eggs. He eats chicken nuggets with no issue and recently had a burger with no issues.
@JVK If he's having no issues with them, it would be good to mention it to your doctor. A test like an oral food challenge can help determine if they're still allergic to that food or not.
@Steve1976 , if you take a look at the news article KFA linked from "improving their burgers" you'll see that the new buns just started rolling out across the west coast a little over a month ago. So stay on guard if your son decides to try burgers again. He may have not had the new recipe yet.
