Peanut Allergy, Bone Marrow Link Offers Clues

An 8-year-old boy no longer has peanut allergy, following a bone marrow transplant to treat his leukemia.  This is the first U.S. case reporting of such an event and may help researchers understand how allergies develop or don't develop.

 

In reverse cases, it has been reported several times that transplant recipients have "inherited" an allergy following organ transplant.

 

While the information is interesting, it is not a viable treatment for food allergy because of cost and risks.
