The Iowa Court of Appeals recently ruled that a child's food allergy is a disability protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The ruling will affect schools, child care centers, day camps, and other recreational programs for children -- which the ADA says cannot discriminate against disabled children.
Many schools in Iowa already have food allergy policies in place to provide accommodations for students with life-threatening food allergies.
