Author, Chef, and Food Allergy Mom Missy Chase Lapine to Host 6th Annual Strides for Safe Kids Mall Walk and Expo
DOYLESTOWN, PA (August 25, 2014) – Kids With Food Allergies (KFA), a division of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), the nation’s leading patient organization for allergies and asthma, is proud to announce that Missy Chase Lapine, “The Sneaky Chef”, will be the honorary chair for KFA’s 6th Annual Strides for Safe Kids® Mall Walk and Expo.
The 2014 Strides for Safe Kids will be Sunday, September 7, from 10:00am - 1:00pm in Plymouth Meeting Mall located at 500 W. Germantown Pike, Plymouth Meeting, PA.
As honorary chair, Ms. Chase will host and promote this annual family-friendly fundraising and awareness event in the Philadelphia area. More than a walk, Strides for Safe Kids brings adults and kids together with special guests, entertainers, sponsors, donors and other supporters for an activity-filled day to celebrate families living with food allergies. The event will be capped-off by a 5K walk around the mall to raise funds for KFA’s mission to keep children with food allergies safe and healthy through education, patient support and advocacy.
“As the mother of a child with a severe nut allergy I know how important it is to be able to offer kids safe and healthy foods when living with the challenge of food allergies,” said Ms. Chase. "I'm especially proud to be chair of this event. KFA plays a critical role in supporting and educating families like mine, and this fun event will raise urgently needed funds to help even more people.”
Ms. Chase’s flagship New York Times bestseller, “The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids’ Favorite Meals,” is transforming the way Americans feed their children. She is also the founder of Sneaky Chef Foods, a company committed to developing products that improve children’s health by helping moms easily feed kids the veggies they need in the foods they already love. Her foods include Sneaky Chef No-Nut Butter (peanut butter alternative made from golden peas) and pasta sauces, made with hidden vegetables available at Whole Foods Markets locally.
“Missy is such a perfect fit as honorary chair for our Mall Walk and Expo,” said Lynda Mitchell, Founder of KFA and a Vice President at AAFA. “She understands everything that food allergy parents go through to keep their kids safe and healthy, and we’re grateful for the energy and passion she brings to this role.”

ABOUT FOOD ALLERGY
Food allergy is a serious public health priority affecting millions of adults and children. An estimated 1 in 13 children in the U.S. now have one or more food allergies, and studies show a rise in prevalence over the past 10-20 years. Despite the risk of anaphylaxis—a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction—there is no cure or preventative treatment for food allergy. Allergen avoidance and management of allergen-restricted diets is crucial to prevent allergic reactions. Prompt treatment when faced with an allergy emergency is essential and life-saving.
ABOUT KIDS WITH FOOD ALLERGIES
KFA is dedicated to keeping children with food allergies safe and healthy through education about prevention, care and treatment, until a cure for food allergy is found. KFA is an essential part of the food allergy and anaphylaxis community offering free patient education programs, webinars, an allergy buyers’ guide, an electronic database of allergen-free recipes and more. KFA hosts the largest and most active online food allergy and anaphylaxis community, a critical platform for parents and caregivers who want to network with others about raising kids with food allergies and related diseases. KFA merged to become a division of AAFA in 2013. For more information visit www.kidswithfoodallergies.org.
