Kids With Food Allergies (KFA), a division of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), hosted a webinar called "Anaphylaxis in America: What Do Doctors Know?" on April 21, 2015, with Dr. Philip Lieberman. Dr. Lieberman was one of the study authors of Anaphylaxis in Americaβ„’, an AAFA study that highlighted some startling gaps in what doctors understand about anaphylaxis, or severe allergic reactions.

Dr. Lieberman is currently Clinical Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (Divisions of Allergy and Immunology) at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine.

The following is a video recording of the webinar and a list of resources to accompany the presentation:

During the webinar, he revealed that he is also the father and grandfather of children with anaphylaxis.

The study surveyed allergy/immunology specialists, emergency physicians, family practitioners, and pediatricians about their awareness and attitudes of severe reactions and related issues.

Besides discussing the findings of the survey, Dr. Lieberman also answered questions from participants, such as:

  • When to give epinephrine
  • Does Benedryl mask anaphylactic reactions
  • Why do I have to go to the emergency department after receiving epinephrine
  • Why do some doctors give steroids after a reaction, and some do not

One attendee wrote, β€œThis has been the best webinar I have attended thus far!”

We are grateful to Dr. Lieberman for donating his time to present this webinar, and we thank Sanofi for providing an unrestricted sponsorship to make this possible.
