Thank you for sharing your thoughts in response to my letter to the President of the Clawson, MI Board of Education on Wednesday. I have been following this conversation closely, and greatly appreciate the time you have taken to share your comments and concerns. I fully agree with you that schools and their boards of education need to ensure the health, safety and inclusion of students with food allergy.

I want you to know that I have received a response from Kevin Turner, President of the Clawson School District’s Board of Education. I look forward to a continued dialogue with Mr. Turner and the Board. As I noted in my letter, I am eager to make AAFA and KFA resources available to the Clawson School District to help their schools provide a supportive and safe environment to students with food allergy. We will keep you posted.

Dear Dr. Sennett,

Thank you for advocating on behalf of our children.  The lack of understanding and compassion for kids with food allergies plays out in our schools and in other parts of our lives every day. Food brings people together and it can tear people apart. I've been angry, hurt, and disappointed on this journey to protect my daughter. I've also felt loved and supported. Cheers to you, the leaders at AAFA/KFA, our medical providers, fellow parents and families, and kids with food allergies, for standing up and demonstrating patience and courage every single day as we work to educate schools, family, friends, and strangers.  We won't win all of their hearts but we must do our best to protect our children from bullying, social isolation, illness, and death. Sincerely, Anita Youngkin
