What Is the Best Way to Get Rid of a Food Impaction Due to EoE?
Food impaction is when food gets stuck in the tube that takes food from your mouth to your stomach. You may feel it in your throat or chest. This can happen with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).
The best way to get rid of a food impaction is by going to an emergency room right away. They can remove the food with an endoscope. An endoscope is a flexible tube that has a light and a camera attached to it. This procedure is done by a gastroenterologist (GI doctor) in an emergency room.
Go to the emergency room right away if you have symptoms of a food impaction. This includes:
- Trouble breathing
- A choking sensation
- Pain such as pain in the chest or throat area
- Inability to swallow saliva
Talk with your allergist and GI doctor about your EoE symptoms. Theyβll make sure you have an effective treatment plan in place. It should include specific instructions for what to do if food gets stuck in your esophagus.
