Yes there is a way to show that. It is known as the Teal pumpkin project. You put a Teal pumpkin on your porch, or front of your house along with one of the signs letting those know that you have safe non food or allergy safe items . That is what the Teal pumpkins represent.

There are so many ways to show your zeal for teal that I'm sure as this awareness initiative grows in the years ahead there will be so many imaginative ways to display teal, both on kids and on houses! Maybe kids could carry teal-colored glowsticks (the kind that snap to light and last for a few hours) - which could also double for safety once it gets a little dark out. You could also carry teal-colored treat bags, or paint a plastic orange pumpkin teal to carry. The teal glowsticks, if they...

Wow Georgina5.... Did you HONESTLY think I didn't read the article? I wasn't asking about MY PORCH... I was asking if there was a way to "mark" your kids so other parents at the HOUSES know your kids are TEAL. It really isn't that difficult to read the response before answering incorrectly. Especially with kids 5+ you aren't necessarily on the porch with them making sure they take something they can have, and kids are kids and can have that out of their bucket on their way down the stairs...

I was surprised at how many kiddos opted for the non-edible treats. Biggest hit..glow in the dark vampire teeth!

We did half and half on the treats too. But I put them in separate bowls since I know some people don't even want the wrappers touching... That said, we didn't get many who requested non-food treats, but we got plenty to opted for them. I figure that was a win anyway since none of the kids need all that candy! I think this year, I'll skip the candy altogether - this will keep me from eating the leftovers and anything leftover will keep for next year!

I am very sorry. I made an honest mistake. I did not read your question correctly therefore did not understand. Your question is a valid one and a great idea as well. I don't think that called for THE CAPS letting me know that you were so insulted by my response. People do make mistakes. Take a breath! Don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoy your Halloween!

What are some other ways people deal with Halloween? I don't think this teal thing should stop by any means, but I am having a hard time seeing it as a widely accepted solution. I have a peanut/treenut allergic kid and I have very mixed emotions... On the one hand, I like the added awareness, but on the other hand... I think this might be expecting too much . In our town, some neighborhoods get hundreds of kids and per item non-food stuff can get expensive. Plus, I really don't want my...

Tips for Managing Food Allergies at School: Get Active With Food-Free Activities

Kids With Food Allergies ·
Do you need ideas to share with your child's teacher to encourage non-food rewards in the classroom? Many elementary schools are becoming more food allergy aware. An average U.S. classroom has two children with a food allergy. Using non-food rewards is healthier for everyone, not just those with food allergies. These ideas get a class up and moving after a job well done.

Did you know that 45% of severe allergic reactions in schools begin in the classroom? 1 About 20-25% of allergic reactions requiring epinephrine in schools occur without a prior history of food allergy. 2 Many schools are moving away from celebrating holidays with food in the classroom. If your school chooses to celebrate Halloween, partner with key school staff and families to plan holiday festivities in alignment with your school’s wellness plan.
