Thank you for that feedback @mistysue . It can be very frustrating when the focus is on peanuts, but your kids are allergic to other things that are common as well. That used to frustrate me when my kids were younger - we had to avoid peanuts in their classroom, but all the alternatives were issues for my kids (dairy, egg, corn). We strive to make our food and recipe blogs accessible to everyone, but that's not always possible. For instance, top-8 free recipes are not always useful for those...

What are some other ways people deal with Halloween? I don't think this teal thing should stop by any means, but I am having a hard time seeing it as a widely accepted solution. I have a peanut/treenut allergic kid and I have very mixed emotions... On the one hand, I like the added awareness, but on the other hand... I think this might be expecting too much . In our town, some neighborhoods get hundreds of kids and per item non-food stuff can get expensive. Plus, I really don't want my...
Hi RW! Some people keep the cost down by ordering bulk non-food treats online, or by giving kids a choice and asking, especially if the parents are nearby. Have you also seen this year's post on craft ideas ... You could also bake a fun safe-for-you cake . My preteen just likes being with his friends, for the most part. I like the idea of donating extra candy to volunteers in your town. Some dentists have always collected it in exchange for something...
ReeseCat Tell the teacher that the "clean theory" has NOT been proven as a cause for kids getting food allergies. It's just one theory and to my knowledge it has not been proven. I had a kindergarten teacher that told me, by state law they have to have the kids wash their hands prior to lunch or eating, but that afterwards was not a requirement, nor would they have the time to take that additional step for me. I pleaded my case due to the contact sensitivity and shared surfaces in a...
Hi Cheryl! Welcome to KFA I wanted to add a note about "inclusion". Usually around here when we're talking about inclusion, we mean that the allergen should be removed from the situation or the environment should be made safe for the child with food allergies so that they can be included in an activity. We are not meaning it to say that a kid with a milk allergy should have to sit and endure a milk-laden pizza party. That's not what we mean by "inclusive". From your post, I couldn't tell if...
Advocate for a no food policy for classroom celebrations in your local schools--it's made such a positive impact in so many ways in our local district. I'm grateful it was already policy when my FA kid entered K.
