Re: Gluten-Free, Milk-Free, Egg-Free Sweet Potato Bread

This is the bread my son depends on...I've been making it for over 2 years now. We use applesauce to replace the egg, so I guess we could call ours applesauce bread!? Going to try it with sweet potatoes. Sounds yummy!

I tried this bread and my family loved it. My older son who doesn't have any food allergies ate 2 slices with butter and wanted more. My husband didn't think it tasted like gluten free bread at all! Thanks for this recipe. I was using egg replacer before and it didn't have much flavor. I like the extra vitamins that we are getting by using sweet potato too.

Note that this calls for a box of BREAD mix, not just the flour mix. There are other ingredients in there as part of the mix besides just the flour/starch. Here is a PDF of the bread mix label.

My dd received the flu shot for the first time this year. She has had severe reactions to miniscule amounts of egg. But she had no reaction to the flu shot! It was quite a relief. Her allergist, who sees many kids with severe egg allergy, said at most he's seen a few kids with minor reactions. The vast majority have not reacted at all.

My daughter is now 13 and has always had belly issues. She had skin and RAST testing done as a toddler with no indications of food allergies. At 11 her belly isues worsened and RAST testing was redone with nujmerous positive results. We did skin testing and she was found to be allergic to milk, egg yolk, and fish. She has what you term a Non-IgE mediated reaction. Oncethe foods were fully eliminated from her diet her belly issues went away, she was no longer bloated and felt much better.

I had my son tested IgE with an allergist because of his eczema condition. We knew his allergy to milk at age of one, hives right after 1 oz of whole milk. He was bs mostly the first 6 months, then alimentum after. He had regular Similic couple times before 6 months but no reactions. His IgE for milk is 6.29, so I think it confirmed his milk allergy. He is still on alimentum and he is 16 1/2 months. His IgE for egg white is above 50, I had not introduced egg to him yet, but with the MMR (had...

My son is extremely allergic to egg and gelatin when used in vaccines. When he was 4 years old, he had a severe reaction to his shots. Two months later, he received the flu vaccine (h1n1 as well as reg flu) and had the same reaction within 15 minutes. We saw an allergist who did a skin test proving it was the gelatin and egg. He has heart defects so we tried to do the multi-step flu shot, and he had an immediate reaction. Hives, rapid breathing and pulse, burning inside, lethargy. When he...

Re: Egg Allergy Is No Longer a Contraindication for the Flu Vaccine

Kids With Food Allergies ·
I'm sorry to hear that your children had reactions to the flu vaccine. Other components of the flu vaccine like gelatin can cause allergic reactions in some children. Your allergist can sort that out. And of course, if your child did have a reaction to the vaccine, as the article said, that is a different scenario and you'd have to follow up with an allergist for as well.

If it's so safe, why is it recommended that it be given in an allergist's/pediatrician's office? Also, why wouldn't the mist be safe? It sounds like good news but I think I'll still give it a few years for my son in case they change their minds again...

Re: Egg Allergy Is No Longer a Contraindication for the Flu Vaccine

Kids With Food Allergies ·
Belgiumite - the flu mist contains live virus; it's a different type of vaccine. The studies the updated recommendations were made on were based on the injectable form of the vaccine. dvk - as a consumer, you make the decisions for your child. However, these guidelines are what the CDC have adopted based on the clinical evidence. Other parents will want this information to initiate a conversation about the flu vaccine with their child's allergist, and that is why we've provided it.

Our allergist says that they have never had an egg-allergic child react iwith ana to the flu vaccine. They give it in the office to be on the safe side (they have all the rescue meds in the unlikely event there should be a reaction). My daughter is allergic to eggs and has never passed a flu vaccine skin test. This year is the first time she's ever had a flu vaccine. She developed a rash (not common with her) several hours later. While this may be a reaction to something else, I'm reluctant to have her vaccinated again unless she outgrows the allergy. Her doctor dismissed my concerns completely. We're looking for a new allergist.

We make "wacky cake" all the time for our kids! Yes - the recipe is egg, dairy & soy-free! We use "unbleached all purpose" flour, and whatever vinegar works for your allergy set. We often use either apple cider vinegar or white vinegar. There are lots more allergy-friendly cake recipes here: http://www.kidswithfoodallergi...friendly-recipes.php

Product Review: We tried the Aged White Cheddar Puffs and really liked them. They are mild in flavor and not salty. I was worried that the puffs would have the texture of Styrofoam, but they didn't. They melt in your mouth. The entire bag was gone within minutes. If you like nutritional yeast, you'll like these Puffs. I was very skeptical of Mexican and Italian restaurants in the beginning. The idea that there was so much cheese in the kitchen made me very nervous. However, I was surprised to learn that many Mexican restaurants don't use much in the way of milk or butter... just lots of cheese. For DS we are almost always able to get him white rice and beans (black or refried - hold the cheese). Occasionally we get him meat, too, but honestly he loves rice and beans so much he prefers them over the meat.

If coconut is safe, there is coconut aminos. Otherwise, I've had good success using umeboshi vinegar. It doesn't have the same depth of flavor (or color - it's purple which can be an odd color in some things), but give that salty "bite" to things. Another options is balsamic vinegar plus salt. That's a little sweeter though. If you can do fish, nuc mam (Vietnamese fish sauce) is another option.
