Thank you for sharing these tips and recipes! When I have to make one in a rush--I put a box of Enjoy Life soft baked cookies (gluten, dairy, egg, nut free) into a bag and smash them up...then I just press them into the pie plate! The snickerdoodles are great as a base for pumpkin pie!
Very true! We just edited the recipe to make a note that this recipe contains wheat and walnuts. You can skip the walnuts and use extra raisins to make the recipe nut-free.
Wow! What a tough journey. I love shrimp but am kind of afraid to try it with my kid. We had a bad experience with trying TN at home. I would advise your friend with the PN daughter to take it in careful steps. I thought my DD was PN only and gave her almonds, it went fine. Then I gave her cashews and we called 911.... First step is peanut component blood test. Apparently there are several different proteins in the peanut one can be allergic to. Some proteins track towards "outgrowing" it,...

We made Chef Luca's nut & dairy free pesto for dinner last night - big YUM from our whole family. Our kids are so excited that Chef Luca is making safe recipes "for them".
The jelly beans on this post look to me to be "Brachs Jelly Bird Eggs" (which have CC labeling that put them on our :not safe: list -- and thank you, Brachs, for labeling to allow consumers the ability to make safe choices, even if it means we don't buy your products). Is this just a stock photo of Easter candy or is this a allergen friendly option?!? Both Gimbals & Starburst beans are great, yummy options for my tree-nut allergic kid, but I'd love to find a "classic" jelly bean, too.
HERSHEY HAS MADE SOME NUT PRODUCTION CHANGES. Their chocolate crosses are now at risk for almond cross contamination. This was a HUGE disappointment for us because that cross has been the centerpiece of the kids baskets for years. The break apart bunny is not made near nuts, but costs 75% more, is ugly, and has only 0.2 oz more candy. I emailed the company and let them know (politely) how disappointed I was. I also reminded them that allergic families are GREAT ADVERTISERS. When we love a...
India Tree Natural Food Colors India Tree offers plant-based food coloring with no synthetic dyes or corn syrup. They are manufactured in a facility that is free of tree nuts and peanuts and do not use gluten. Although they cannot promise that all items are free of allergens, they do participate in an Allergen Control Program to help reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Some of their products are vegan and non-GMO. Their website contains a recipe for Easter egg dying which produces soft,...
Ashley, I'm not sure, but I'll send up a flare ... you can also post a new topic on our Food And Cooking forum to ask this specific question. And welcome to KFA! I take it you manage coconut/nut/soy and diary allergies?
Thank you so much! That helps a lot, I'll see if I can find one at Walmart or Michael's so I can get a candy thermometer, too. My niece has dairy, egg, nut allergies so I'm really excited to make her some goodies for Christmas this year! Thanks again!
Cool! My chocolate coins started melting when the boys handled them (prob b/c i added coconut oil). Will follow these melting instructions instead! Any idea on how to make a stuffed bunny? My boys love Sneaky Chef No Nut Butter - would like to fill their bunny w/ that. Thanks.
I've made filled chocolates before. It's best with a deeper mold like an egg. What you do is fill the mold with melted chocolate and let it sit for a minute. Then pour out the unset chocolate. This will leave a "shell" of chocolate in the mold. Add your filling (I'd use the nut butter, powdered sugar mixture from something like Buckeyes http://www.kidswithfoodallergi...name=Mock%20Buckeyes ). Don't add too much filling. Tap the mold gently to settle things. Then cover with melted chocolate.
This is great "thinking outside the box - er - pot" ideas! With all of the nut flavored coffees out there, however, I'd wonder if the cleaning for x-contamination described would really be sufficient? Especially since I know how grounds get slopped all around our coffee maker here at home, throughout every part of the machine (including the water reservoir).

Thank you for reminder to Read labels and not get relaxed on reading common products as safe. I am very worried about cupcakes label said PEANUT FREE Facility BUT...i never seen strawberry cupcakes so decided to read label it said nuts n pecans in ingredients...i s so glad i read ..my daughter is allergic to nuts ALL nut and i was taking them to school for LAST DAY OF SCHOOL SNACK TO CHANGE OUT THE TEACHERS SNACKS FOR SAFE TREATS ..SCARY!! AND im discusted the label said peanut free sticker...
Hi Sunny - that sounds really scary and I'm so glad you checked the label so thoroughly. Peanut and tree nuts are different allergens, so something can be peanut free but not tree nut free...and vice versa. Thank you for the reminder to not make assumptions about labeling "claims" and always read the full ingredients label.
I have a question - how do parents of potentially severe reaction pn/nut allergy parents handle allowing their child around others who are consuming the products? I have gotten to the point where family members just completely disregard my daughters nut allergy and while she will not sample everything, i find myself restricting everyone in bringing potentially harmful foods around her for fear of contact/cross contamination. Some feel this is overboard/ocd behavior so I am curious to see how...
Constance, I never realized how much American culture centers socialization on food until I had a child with severe peanut and tree nut allergies. We have fought long and hard to rethink food as nourishment, not entertainment, and our daughter has grown to see food in this way. When we visit others, we choose not to eat, to arrive after people eat (or to leave before food is served), or to bring our daughter her own food. When we entertain and decide to include food, we provide all food and...
Yesterday SV's Mary Vargas argued the case of JD v. @Will Way children as young as the newborn age have shown to have a deadly reaction to peanuts/treenuts from the mother's milk or have a skin reaction after being touched by someone with residue on their hands. The peanut protein is different from other nuts. It is actually a legume. Not a nut!
So many Indian sweets contain nuts such as almonds and pistachios for garnishing 2 of my boys are allergic to peanuts and tree nuts so I try to avoid almost all the sweets unless it's something I have prepared myself at home
Hi thank you for all you are doing. I have a question still...their use of and definition of “should” concerns me that top 8 can be subbed without a label change..as they say they “should be” and not “must be” before describing the safety paragraph on top 8 etc.. can you look at the highlighted usage in the two attachments please? also, in the paragraph describing what it means “ They are not allowed to substitute the top 8 food allergens (egg, milk, wheat, soy, peanut, tree nut, fish and...
