My kids birthdays are close together, so we opt for one family party for both. This year DS requested a tie dye cake. DD requested a large ice cream sundae bar, not pictured.
We also cannot have rice. This has been a big frustration for us. My son is newly diagnosed with many food allergies, and I am having trouble finding recipes without rice. In this recipe, are there any ingredients that can be used instead of rice? Thank you so much!

Our Food and Cooking forum is a great place to ask questions about safe substitutes to make recipes work for you -- the moms on KFA's Food and Cooking forum helped me plan a corn-free, peanut free, soy-free Chinese New Year Banquet, so I'd say they can just about do anything.
Leslie, I'm not sure ... I'm thinking you could try it without it but you may have to adjust the other ingredients because the protein powder may act like a binder of sorts, and it may be too wet otherwise. I'll send up a flare and see if we can't figure it out.
Nutfreemama - I was at a Summit where a Hershey's rep talked about what they do to protect and inform the food allergy community with their labeling. That was where we learned about this new bar. That exact issue about the wrapper was raised, especially in light of the recent anaphylaxis fatality from the Chips Ahoy cookies with the label pulled back. The actual candy looks very different and you can see the colored pieces in the chocolate. But since it is the same size bar as the "safe"...
these look awesome and easy for the kids to help with. Thanks for sharing. we just made the sunbutter chocolate fudge last night and that is also great. has anyone tried a coacoa bar from the grocery store? I just got one that lists the ingredients as: 100% chocolate and that's it. I also need to stay clear of corn, wheat, soy, dairy, nuts & eggs..wondering if anyone has had any luck using a bar marked 100% chocolate.
Hi Denise! I've never seen a chocolate bar that didn't have other ingredients such as sugar, cocoa butter and emulsifiers--what brand is it if you don't mind sharing? I've had some 100% chocolate, but it was basically just a brick of pressed cocoa powder and wouldn't have been suitable for using in a recipe like this one. Without those other ingredients I can't imagine it would melt very well. The other consideration would be to make sure you had contacted the manufacturer of the chocolate...
I have a child with multiple food allergies, with dairy being the most severe. He also has had asthma induced with "contact sensitive" reactions from accidentally touching an allergen on a surface and then touching a membrane (eyes, nose, lips). Many people do not realize the severity of "cross-contamination" and or "contact sensitive" individuals with food allergies. Putting my son in a room full of kids eating something that he can't is just as dangerous due to the "contact sensitivity". I...
