WTG Robyn Love the idea of the spirit day and the extra minutes of recess instead of a sugary treat ~ what a great way to encourage kids to be more active and that there are other ways to celebrate outside of having treats.
Thank you! I am signed up for it, and I am looking forward to it! My daughter just started Kindergarten, and we are trying to figure out where she should sit at lunch etc. I appreciate all that you do. This is very timely for us! Thanks!
Sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure my son (12) would participate ! I can imagine more girls wanting to though.Look at it this way, how many dads do we see on the forums One other thing I'm not sure about is would the kids be able to see our posts ? i think they might not be too happy about some of the things we say about them at times, could find it embarrassing
Happy Anniversary! While I love the work that you do, I am not sure I agree with Dr. Douglas Johnston's advice regarding making peanut butter sandwiches at school. He is suggesting that the allergic child be excluded from the lunch-making activity. I would say "exclude the food, not the child." Maybe they could use Sunbutter or soybutter instead, or pick some other food to serve. Sincerely, Anna Bauer
They are both great! My son enjoyed the Mac n Cheese for dinner last night, first time he's ever liked a dairy free mac n cheese. I tasted it, it was fantastic. Today for lunch he asked to have sunbutter on the crackers and devoured them. We love Earth Balance products!
This looks great. But my son is also allergic to raw fruits so I will boil the apples too. That's for any one else who has raw fruit allergies. This is a great idea for a new breakfast. Thanks so much for sharing it. My son was diagnosed at 8 months old with severe food allergies in 1996. (Wheat, eggs all tree nuts and legumes) It's so much easier now.. He is going off to college next week. Now the colleges serve gluten free foods. I did offer to come along with him to cook for him.. Hehehe,...
I am mom of an 11 yo girl who was diagnosed with daily allergy when she was 3 months old. We try to make sure that she eats calcuim rich food and drinks calcuim fortified orange juice. however, being completely off any dairy products, I think leaves her with insufficient calcium intake. Her blood tests are normal for now. Does anyone have a good idea of might be "early preventative nutritional strategies" if the article seems to be point out that even calcium supplements have not been...
The price of these are expensive compared to other pastas, but since they have so much more protein and fiber, maybe it would be a good idea to mix these with your current gluten-free pasta to boost the nutrition of your meal. (If you can't afford to use these solely.)
Yay! I've been nervously waiting for an update hoping they turned out for you! I'm sooooo glad they did! And you have me drooling over the idea of a ham and cheese biscuit!
HI, My son, who has a peanut allergy, will start kindergarten in a few weeks. At his school peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are served everyday in the cafeteria. The school offers 3 choices to each child and PB&J is one of the choices. I am so worried and scared about sending him to school. I have spoken with the nutrition department for the school district and the only thing she said the school could do is have my son sit at a table all by himself. That does not solve the problem...
I'm sorry you are feeling so stressed over starting Kinder. Have you requested a 504 evaluation?? The last link in #5 above has lots of resources on that process. That is your best way to get accommodations for your kiddo. In that type of plan is where you can specify things like handwashing after snack/lunch, a peanut free table/zone in the cafeteria, etc. Have you discussed w/ the doc what he thinks are reasonable/necessary accommodations??
Thank you for making it easy for us to "write" to Sony Pictures. How does this stupid scene make it through the creative/editing processes at Sony?! Don't they test movies with a test audience? The biggest issue I have with this scene is that it's the "hero" (i.e., the one the kids are rooting for to "win") that comes up with the sadistic idea. Other movies have accidental food allergy scenes which are much more acceptable. But to have the hero purposely try to remove the human via an...
No, I can't insurance because this is the insurance through my husbands work. There is no way I'm going to be able to do a food challenge at home. I'm way too frightened of what could happen but what else is one to do when you know that at some point you have to know?! Talked with doctor today (left message) and asked if there is a way around it. They wouldn't even pay for the skin or blood allergy test. It's crazy! Our insurance is amazing and we've had 14 years. Never had to use the...
Cool! My chocolate coins started melting when the boys handled them (prob b/c i added coconut oil). Will follow these melting instructions instead! Any idea on how to make a stuffed bunny? My boys love Sneaky Chef No Nut Butter - would like to fill their bunny w/ that. Thanks.
Hi @makadela ! I hope you have fun with this! I was going to suggest making a hollow bunny as per instructions above, poking a hole in the bottom to pipe in a filling, and then covering the hole with more melted chocolate. @Kathy P 's idea will probably work better, but this might work for sophisticated shapes. We'd love to hear how it works, and see what you create! Don't forget you can add pictures in the comments!
