I applaud your effort to provide education by writing this letter. Thank you very much for meeting this with a helpful hand. I have one request as you move forward in providing education and awareness-- In these discussions please be mindful that we need to educate and raise awareness that life-threatening food allergies are not restricted to those with nut & peanut allergy. Unfortunately too many people harbor this dangerous misimpression that only nuts cause life threatening reactions.
French Toast and Pancakes: Verdict - Meh x 3 Mixing it - I didn't want to mix up the entire pouch. After some looking along the website I found you could mix it up in smaller batches if you have a device that can blend a smaller amount of liquid. I did 4 tsp and 1 cup water and blended with a stick blender. The smell is quite strong! Pancake: I thought I could then hand blend the prepared product into my pancake batter. It did not blend in completely. I saw yellow bits and bobs throughout.
Hand mixing..., anthing but blending, is a def no-no. Blending creates a smooth luxurious thick yolk. On the french toast try just dipping day old sour dough bread into Vegg mixture with no milk for maximal eggy taste. I'm suprised you did't think it tasted like french toast since it's almost unanimously judged to be 'just like' french toast.

You start with one lemon, and then use all the zest and juice you can get from it. I have a little hand zester to use on the peel to get the zest. Then I either cut the lemon into wedges that I squeeze by hand or cut it into half to use on a small juicer.
This study is saying "correlation does not equal causation" to me. The hygiene hypothesis would be great except it does not explain babies born with food allergies on Day One of Life, like my daughter. We are not avid cleaners, our unwashed dishes sit around for days, we visit farms several times a year and muck about, are outside getting dirty all the time and we don't bathe our kids very often. I am more inclined to believe food allergies have something to do with the way our public...
I think we've learned no one study will ever explain everything....My DS had antibiotics the first two weeks of life, his father had a milk allergy as an infant, and much later I found out his uncle had soy and wheat, and EVEN LATER (like last year) I found out my ex-father in law also had a milk allergy as a baby and was failure to thrive.I think even if I lived on a farm and let him roll in the mud with the pigs, that combo would have been hard to overcome!
Thank you for sharing and for your words of encouragement. This happened a week ago and it was scary and baffling because I did not know what caused it. Actually, I did contact the company and the founder called me back. I have been given a copy of the press release. He was profoundly apologetic and reassuring. He explained to me the active steps he has taken to ensure it never happens again. Apparently, they believe a small batch was packaged incorrectly as they transitioned to becoming a...
I just finished making this. The recipe does not say how quickly (or not) to add the cubes of oil, so I had to research a traditional recipe to verify that it's added slowly. I used butter since that's what I have on hand. The first few cubes looked good, then it started looking separated and curdled. It wasn't until the very end that it all finally came together. I don't know that I've ever tasted traditional swiss buttercream, but this tastes like light fluffy sweet butter. Great recipe - ...
That is an interesting question! In fact, it is never a given that any squad will have epinephrine. Where I live, basic life support squads (BLS, and most often volunteers) have to apply to the state (NJ) to carry it, and then they use auto-injectors. Advanced EMTs, or paramedics from hospitals - I am not sure what they carry but I think they are auto-injectors - I read there is one state out west that started carrying ampules and syringes to cut down on cost. There are other companies that...
This is interesting, as I have never seen a 30 oz. size of Pretzel Crisps. I have seen a 32 oz. size, wonder if they changed their product line up / changed manufacturing facilities? I do know the 7.2 oz size I have on hand at home does have a "made in a facility that process milk and soy" statement. As of about 6 months ago when I check they had two facilities where they manufacture their products.
I will definitely pass that a bout the stick figure being so helpful on to our community leadership! Here is a link to a downloadable anaphylaxis sheet with that same info that you can hand out to teachers and caregivers.
To be honest, I'm not sure yet. Still kind of processing the info. It sounds good, but the knowledge that the allergens were there and could slip through is a concern. On the other hand, their QC seems top notch.
My FAK has both food allergies and asthma, and I'm trying to get his 504 plan to allow him NOT to wear a cloth face covering. The way the governor's executive order reads, that means he has to wear a face shield instead. Wearing a cloth over his mouth and nose for 7 hours is not a good idea. A face shield should allow a teacher to see any hives or facial swelling, should they occur, should allow him better air flow, and won't attract dust mites on the cloth for concentrated breathing. We...
