How to Keep Kids with Food Allergies Safe at Outdoor Celebrations
deborah621 Always carry your child’s epinephrine auto-injectors. Know how to administer epinephrine correctly in case of an allergic reaction. At cookouts or potlucks, set aside a safe dish for your child and label it. Prevent allergen cross-contact by keeping your child’s food separate from the main serving area. Avoid foods without readable labels, as different brands may have different ingredients. Little ones may not understand safe vs. unsafe foods. Children playing with others may encounter food... Understanding Food Allergy Tests
Ellegelle I am wondering if there’s any information about how a combination of foods may contribute to an allergic reaction. At times I have had a mild reaction after ingesting a small amount of food with peanuts. Other times I have had a more severe reaction. So could it be that there is some other protein or substance that intensifies the reaction? I have read some of the questions that parents have posted about inconsistent results and it made me reflect on my own experiences as an adult with a... [ more ]

AAFA’s Ask the Allergist: Are Cast Iron Pans Safe for Food Allergies?
MN ❤️
StephC We use cast iron daily, and sometimes cook dairy and eggs in them (two of my 13 year old son's allergens.) Washing cast iron with soap and water automatically requires heat-drying and wiping with an oil once cooled. We do this daily; it's not technically "reseasoning;" it's just proper rust prevention. My family has done this since my childhood; I'm 47. I still use one of my father's skillets. Even if a pan totally rusts over, a simple scrubbing in soap and water with steel wool removes the... I think it is great if airlines are offering peanut or nut-free flights but I think there 35,000 feet isn't where I would want to find they made any type of mistake. I think researching which airlines will and will not make announcements, grant buffer zones, do or do not serve peanuts, nuts, etc is also a good idea. Baking With Food Allergies – Your Questions Answered
Kathy P If coconut is safe, there is coconut aminos. Otherwise, I've had good success using umeboshi vinegar. It doesn't have the same depth of flavor (or color - it's purple which can be an odd color in some things), but give that salty "bite" to things. Another options is balsamic vinegar plus salt.
